Spring show and open day

At last, we seem to have decided on a date for introducing you to our new look Posterity. We will be showing off the new look barn (with businesses in situ) over the weekend of May 11th/12th/13th.

Of course we are open as usual, Monday – Saturday, but hope that the weather relents so you can come and meet the new guys.  We will be manning our stand at the Spring show at Malvern, will hope that you get a chance to combine a visit to Posterity.

Seven new spaces have been created and taken by:

Zoe Jones (french furniture & decorative items); Klara Goldy ( Interior designer, decorative & painted furniture); Matthew Nunn (antiques & French polishing); Thorogood (antiques & curios); Coppice Old Pine (pine furniture original and to order); State of the Arc (antiques, retro & collectables); Sue Kirby (rustic/country objet d’art & herb garden)

In addition, we have extended the space upstairs and installed a new staircase, thus creating more space for you to browse Posteritys stock of architectural and decorative pieces.

Open weekend

The proposed open weekend, pencilled for 31st of this month has been put off for a couple of weeks.   I don’t think we will be quite ready to introduce you to our new look barn and the new sub tenants by the end of this month, and as Easter falls a week later, we propose to have our Spring weekend on the 14th/15th April, or 21st./22nd.

We are open as usual while work is going on in the large barn.

So please watch this space for opening times and confirmation of date. If you are on our mailing list you will be notified in person. If not, and you would like to be on it, please send us your email address.

Elvis has left the building…but heyho, Spring is in the air.

A sad parting.

Clearout auction, certainly was a clearout. The barn is EMPTY!  Very cathartic, but sad in some ways. Prices were on the whole low. I still can’t get the hang of estimates. You estimate high, people get frightened away, you estimate low, and people stop bidding once they have gone over the estimate. So I imagine there are a lot of happy salegoers this week. Life without Elvis will be hard (not so hard without Alan Titchmarch). We now need to remove all those items from the website quickly.

However we can now get on with the planned work and next time you visit I expect you won’t recognise the place.

The plan is to hold an open weekend 31st/1st. So watch this space.

Cheltenham Gold Cup approaches. Look out for an outsider this year. Kauto’s confidence will have been hit by his heavy fall on the gallops, and Long Run seems to have lost the plot a bit.

Macintosh books sales continue to trundle on, and if you have been after a copy on Amazon, don’t be put off by the ‘out of stock’. They do get to you after about a week. (its just that they can’t guarantee the next day delivery thing).

Clearout auction

Yes, its official.  Auction date has been set for March 3rd. (Saturday)     The main barn needs a bit of a change, and we need it empty so we can carry out the work. Plan is to make it a bit more welcoming and weather proof and then divide into four or five sections and let other businesses join us here.

So rather than move everything again, we are going to sell it!

Nearly everything will be sold without reserve, so its a great chance to grab a bargain. we will aim to have the items lotted up in good time (hopefully by Wednesday prior to the sale)  So if you can’t make the Saturday, we implore you to leave bids in the office (however silly they may be).

Sale will commence at 11 am and hopefully finish by 1 pm. The cafe will be open for refreshments. Car parking will be available in the field opposite. Buyers premium will be at a minimum, just to cover the auctioneers and office fees.

This is NOT a garden sale and that will be later in the year.

Delivery of purcahsed items can be arranged if you are unable to collect.   Catalogue (list with some images) will be available by Thurs Mar 1st.

Christine Baxter Works

We have recently taken a collection of garden figures by local sculptor Christine Baxter. These beautifully cast figures offer a more contemporary option for decoration in house or garden. Priced from as little as £50 to over £1000.

See the ornament section in ‘garden’ on our stock page for a complete range of her work.

2012 news

Happy New Year.

What’s in store for 2012?

With the slowing of the housing market, the reclamation side of the business has almost stopped, and it seems pointless keeping three large barns full of stock.  However, the sales of and interest in vintage, retro and interiors is still very buoyant. This is the direction we will be promoting and this years plan is to divide the yard into smaller units. More customers, more variation, more interest and more promotion. We have therefore advertised up to five units in the main ‘farm building’ for people who want to start small businesses, such as upholsterers, picture framers, artists, or simply for people who want to retail items that will fit in with the general idea of the yard…… collectables of all kinds, furniture, vintage items, or local produce. We will also offer an outside space for someone to supply herbs/ shrubs etc.

The yard is constantly manned and with the existing business of posterity, the gallery,  cafe Salvation which reopens in March, yes we can’t wait, and Tina’s upstairs retro store we should have a place to visit. Do let us know if you would be interested in a space, or if you know anyone who might be.

DECEMBER SALE

What a great day the Vintage fair was, and thanks to all of you who came and made it so special. We raised a good bit of money for Great Ormond Street and all the stallholders and cafe Salvation were delighted with the day.

Sadly the cafe here is now closed for the winter and will reopen in the Spring. We will keep you posted.

However please don’t let that put you off visiting this month as we are having our customary December sale, and all items marked with yellow price tags will be reduced by 20%. Not to be missed. Only items bought in the last week have escaped the yellow stickers. If you had your heart set on a coffee, Nick, Sue and I will be delighted to make you one – just ask!

VINTAGE & HANDMADE FAIR 26th November

You would be a clown not to attend the first Ledbury Vintage and handmade fair. Now only ten days to go before stallholders from as far as Derbyshire, Pembrokeshire and Wiltshire join more local collectors and superbly creative and innovative designers to display their wares.
Over 25 stalls will fill the old brick barn at Posterity, located on the stunning Eastnor Castle Estate just one mile North of Ledbury town (recently voted one of Britains best shopping towns by The Today programme on Radio 4).
Vintage clothing, jewellery, toys, games and homewares will mix with beautifully created textiles, glassware, stained glass, knitware, quilts, cushions and much more.
A certain amount of decorations and cards will also be on display.
All will offer ideas to make Christmas and 2012 a better place.

In addition cafe Salvation will be open all day, supplying a great choice of drinks and eats; from a warming coffee to carry round the fair with you, to a place to sit and reflect over a healthy brunch, a warming bowl of homemade soup, or cake and scones.

Entrance is free for visitors, but there will be collection boxes for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.
Parking is available in the yard, and overflow will be in the adjoining field. So if its wet bring sensible shoes. The fair opens to the public at 10 a.m. and closes at 5 p.m.

Saturday Steal

The Saturday Steal item is a new popular spot at Posterity. Each Saturday one item of stock is placed on the bank with a heavily reduced price tag. For the last two weeks the Steal has been snapped up, and this weeks special is two pieces of bentwood garden furniture, with the original Fortnum & Masons sales book. Priced at £225..They are offered at £50 for the pair! It’s a STEAL.

Vintage fair.

November 26th sees the first Vintage Fair at Posterity. Instead of the autumn auction sale, we decided with the help of salvation cafe that it would be more fun and festive to stage Ledburys first such fair. Up to 30 stallholders are expected, and the cafe will be serving hot drinks and warming dishes, as well as their own cider and perry.
The Fair will be held in the brick barn, and will be open from 10 am to 5 pm. Posterity will be open for people to mooch in the other building. Wrap up warm if the weather is cold.
