On a recent visit to Lisbon, David chanced upon three pairs of doors removed from the Royal Palace in Belem. “They had just arrived at a demolition yard I was visiting, and seemed too good to miss” The doors which were removed from one of the state rooms (see picture) were being replaced as part of a refurbishment. It seems incredible that doors from such an important buiding were not put up for auction, and it is unimaginable that doors from Buckingham Palace would end up in a salvage yard. One set of the doors has found a new home in Wiltshire. The other two are in stock at Ledbury.
